Time Tracking

Time tracking (time logging, time recording) in InLoox supports various use cases: recording time spent on project-related tasks, documenting activities, and tracking working hours for later billing. You can access time tracking both within a specific project and from the global view. In both views, you can create new time tracking entries and edit existing ones.

  • The global time tracking view shows all time tracking entries across all projects you have access to. Click Time in the left menu to open the global time tracking list. You can switch between two views:

  • The project time tracking view shows only the time entries for the open project. Navigate to Projects → open a project → click the Time tab.

Important

To book time entries, you must first define your working hours in the settings. By default, InLoox assumes 8 hours per day. Administrator rights are required.

You also set how many days retroactively a time entry may be posted. If this period is exceeded, the user receives a notification message.

Permissions

To access Time and see and edit time entries, you need at least the following permissions (as global user permission, division permission, or role-based permission):

  • Read own time entries — to access Time and see your own time entries
  • Edit own time entries — to create time entries and edit your own entries after creation

Optional permissions for broader access:

  • Read time entries — to see all time entries of all users in your account
  • Edit time entries — to edit all time entries of all users in your account
  • Allow backdating in time recording — to backdate time entries within the period defined in Account Settings

See Permissions for details.

Standard Groupings

In the list view of the global time tracking, the following standard groupings are available:

  • Performed By
  • Group (billing group)
  • Billable
  • Performed By > Group

Select None to remove an existing grouping. For individual groupings, activate the Advanced Mode and drag columns into the grouping area. See Group, Filter, and Sort List Views for details.
